I am a recent graduate from Heriot-Watt University with an Honours Degree in Mechanical
Engineering. I demonstrated noteworthy ability to learn within a classroom setting and I am keen
to translate this ability and willingness to learn to professional situations as I seek my first role in
industry. Moreover, I have experience working in the Facilities Management Division of an
International Organisation (African Union Commission).

My drive, capacity for hard work, teamwork skills, willingness to face challenges, communication
skills; sociable and goal-oriented nature are all skills which put me in good standing to achieve my
long term goals of rising through the ranks as a skilled professional Engineer, attaining chartered
status with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and ultimately becoming a Chief Engineer.
The notion of engineering fascinates me. I am intrigued by the idea of using the laws of nature
such as physics and mathematics to achieve a goal. I, further, have an ardent appetite for problem
solving. I find a substantial deal of personal satisfaction in the process of identifying a problem
and the appropriate selection and implementation of a solution whether as an individual or in a
teamwork setting.

During my school tertiary years, I engaged in various projects where I developed
the ability to contribute effectively in a team towards achieving a goal. One such project was
undertaken in my final year of study where a team of my colleagues and I were required to design
a Strandbeest. I was required to lead the group towards achieving the design of this mechanical
animal-like structure in an attractive and innovative manner. I was able to effectively establish a
fine balance between being demanding and easy going which was achieved by never relinquishing
unity of command, overcoming falling into the trap of groupthink and creating a sense of
participation and unity. The Strandbeest project was a success with the group designing a unique
solar powered Strandbeest. I exhibited one of what I believe is my most important qualities, which
sets me apart from my peers; the ability to be aware of, control, express my emotions, and handle
interpersonal relationships fairly and in an empathetic manner. I am very mindful of and
continually trying to improve my emotional intelligence.
During my internship at the African Union Commission, I worked with the Facilities Management
Division where I was responsible, among other tasks, for the building condition and risk
assessments of all buildings and subsequent report write up which led to numerous building
condition improvements throughout the organisation. I am most proud that my work was useful
and brought about these improvements related to plumbing, lighting, ventilation, comfort, fire
hazard mitigation and safety of the workplace. Further, I developed the first ever African Union
Commission Parking Space Management Policy/Guideline. I was able to learn management
techniques, organisation and communication skills in a professional environment and further
demonstrated brilliant ability to produce required reports at an International Organisation standard
